Fun Dawgs Classes by Reservation

Fun Dawgs By-Reservation classes have a different format than most classes. In traditional classes everyone starts on the same date (week 1/ session 1) with a predetermined number of sessions in a class, for example 6 sessions in 6 weeks. If you miss a session you lose out.
Not that way with By-Reservation classes. Classes are Open-Enrollment, which means there is no start or end date and allows teams to join whenever they want and only use up their sessions when they come. If you miss a week you don’t have to worry about falling behind as each team learns at their own pace. This By-Reservation method allows you to reserve a spot in sessions on the dates you know you can come.
Before starting the training sessions, you and your dog will need to attend a free one hour orientation. Then you can start whenever you’re ready.
You buy a pack of sessions and use a session each time you come. You can buy a 4 session pack for $120 or save 10% by buying an 8 session pack for $216. You can use the pack for any of the classes. You might want to work on Good Manners and Agility first, and then maybe try a few Real World or CGC sessions. See class descriptions below.

Class Descriptions

FUN for ALL AGILITY
Do you have an active dog or puppy that likes to keep busy? Have you completed basic obedience classes and wonder what’s next? This fun agility class is set up to challenge you and your dog to work together as a team, strengthen your relationship, and – most importantly – have a ton of fun! During this class you’ll be introduced to an exciting variety of agility equipment, such as the A frame, teeter, weave poles, tunnels, and jumps. As you gain accuracy, your speed and teamwork improve, and the potential for fun becomes endless! Agility Class Requirements: Your dog must be current on all vaccinations. Bring proof of DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccination to the first class. If your dog is under 18 months, their jumping will be limited unless a Vet clears them for jumping.

GOOD MANNERS
Have you adopted a dog or puppy, but don’t know where to start? Does your faithful companion need a refresher course in good manners? Have a rollicking good time learning about the behavioral needs of dogs and how any dog can learn to have good manners.
Team members work to achieve Good Manners goals. The first level goals include Sit, Down, Come when called, and walking nicely on a leash. The second level continues to refine those skills and adds additional skills, such as Stays and Leave it. The third level pushes the teams to a greater level of the previously learned skills, and adds Heel and Distance cues. Of course, we’ll have a lot of fun learning some tricks too!
Adult Dog Requirements: Your dog must be current on all vaccinations. Bring proof of DHPP and Rabies vaccination to the first session you attend. Bring proof of DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccination to the orientation class.
Puppy Requirements: Puppies must be at least 8 weeks of age. Very young Puppies (8-10 weeks) must have received a minimum of one set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first deworming. All puppies should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the class. Bring proof of vaccination to the orientation class.

REAL WORLD SESSIONS
Individual training sessions that take place out-and-about in real world settings. We’ll build and refresh behaviors, such as Sit, walking nicely on leash, Down, Stay, etc., in a variety of locations. Real World sessions include: Historic Strolls around San Leandro, Outdoor Restaurants & Picnics, Marina Walks, & Pet Store Manners.
Requirements: Your dog must be 5 months of age and current on all vaccinations. Bring proof of DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccination to the orientation class.

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN
CGC is on hiatus until 2012. I am rewriting its format as an open enrollment, work-at-your-own-pace class. Sign up on the mailing list for updates.
Practice the 10 test items to get the AKC CGC certificate. Tests include meeting people politely; accepting petting and grooming; walking nicely on leash; Sit, Down, Stay, and Come; remaining calm during sight and sound distractions; and 3 minute separation from handler. The CGC test (last class) is the gateway to many therapy dog programs and is accepted by some insurance companies and landlords as an indication that the dog has social skills and that you and your sidekick work well together as a team. Requirements: Your dog must be current on all vaccinations. Bring proof of DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccination to the first class. Click here for AKC'c CGC brochure.
